Welcome!

This database is a product of the 'Co-operative research on East African territorial integration within globalisation' (CREATING) project. Funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, under its Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) programme in support of international cooperation, this collaborative project aims to create, develop and strengthen a social sciences and humanities research network of European area scholars and institutions and East African colleagues and partner institutions.
CREATING currently involves nine major partners in Europe and East Africa working to establish a firm foundation for the future enhancement of integrated European and East African research capacity, and to define relevant areas for collaborative research. For more information about the CREATING project, go to: http://www.creating7.net.
The Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tervuren, Belgium) has created this database to promote social sciences and humanities research on the Lake Tanganyika hinterland. It comprises more than 3,000 bibliographic references and an inventory of scientific journals relating to the area. Thank to the collaboration of the University of Stockholm (Department of Geography), Tanganyikabase presents a survey of Great Lakes Region aerial photograph archives maintained by African and European scientific institutions and universities. An inventory of maps kept at the Royal Museum for Central Africa's Department of Geology is also provided.
